The Paper free essay sample
1. Jean Jackson estimated that the units in ending inventory in the final processing department were 25% complete with respect to the conversion costs of the final processing department. If this estimate of the percentage completion is used, what would be the cost of goods sold for the year? Since 270,000 units were transferred in the processing department and 250,000 were completed and sold, this leaves 20,000 units left in the ending inventory. Of the 20,000 units left in inventory, 25% of the conversion cost required to complete the units had already been incurred. The partially completed units need to be computed into equivalent units, which are the number of completed units that could have been produced from the work that was put into all the partially completed units (Garrison, Noreen Brewer, 2012). Equivalent units = 20,000 x 25%, so the equivalent units is 5,000 Equivalent units of production = 250,000 + 5000 = 255,000 Cost per equivalent unit = 49,221,000 + 16,320,000 = 65,541,000/ 255,000= 257.02 per unit 257.02 x 250,000= 64,255,882 2. Does Thad Kostowski want the estimated percentage completion to be increased or decreased? Explain why. We will write a custom essay sample on The Paper or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Thad Kostowski wanted the estimated percentage of completion to be increased in order to make it seem as if the cost of goods sold is lower. 3. What percentage completion figure would result in increasing the reported net operating income by $62,500 over the net operating income that would be reported if 25% figure were used? 4. Do you think Carol Lee should go along with the request to alter estimated of the percentage completion? Why or why not? Carol Lee should not go along with the request because it would be unethical. Thad Kostowski is already being unethical by asking her to alter information and if she goes along with his request she is bringing her lead supervisor, Jean Jackson, into the unethical practices as well. In other words, if she says yes to his request, she is affecting her employees as well as putting her job at risk.

Reflection on Authentic Leadership-.com
Question: Write a Reflection on Authentic Leadership Development. Answer: Leadership can be defined as the action of leading people in a group or an organization. It may also refer to leadership as being the art that motivates people to act in a particular manner in order to achieve a certain goal. . The authentic theory of leadership is based on the authenticity of the leader fostering the development of their followers. The follower in return will contribute to the attainment of performance that is veritable and sustainable. This discourse is a reflection on the development of authentic leadership. Definition of Authenticity The roots of authenticity are based on the concept of being true to self. As an authentic leader, this to me means being myself. I also believe that it extends to seeing myself accurately and being in tune with my basic nature. Within the perspectives of authentic leadership, it is developed by self-actualization that produces ethical convictions that are strong (Harter, 2002). Since it is not a fixed state, I believe it also extends to attaining and achieving levels of sincerity and commitment when relating to other people. Development Components Psychological capital that is positive- Authentic leadership is developed by possessing the psychological qualities of hope, confidence, resiliency and optimism. These qualities are heightened in the authentic leader against the background of positive organizational contexts. As a leader, positive development is manifested in self-awareness and behavior that is self-regulated (Avolio Gardner, 2005, p. 322). Since these psychological qualities are open to change and development, the authentic leader can help to develop people, teams and organizations to flourish. Positive morality- An authentic leader should possess moral values that draw upon reserves of courage and resiliency. This is important in addressing issues that are ethical in nature. I also believe that it extends to sustaining and achieving authentic actions which are moral. Positive perspectives of morality are also important for the authentic leader when making decisions that transparent. This calls for the development of moral capacity for the leader. Leader self-awareness- The authentic leader should be cognizant of their existence in the context of time and temporality. It incorporates understanding their strengths, beliefs and sense of purpose. As an authentic leader, I should be aware of my capabilities, knowledge and experiences (Luthans Avolio, 2003). Three important elements that the authentic leader should posses include: cognitions of identity, goals, values, and emotions. An effective authentic leader nurtures and develops these elements of self-awareness. Self-regulation by the leader- The authentic leader should be able to align their values with the intentions and actions that they take. This involves self-control that is three pronged: setting standards which are internal, identifying the chasm between the ideal standards and actual outcomes and reconciling the two. Self-regulation is developed through transparency, behavior that is authentic and balanced internal processing that is unbiased. Leadership behaviors- One way in which the authentic leader attracts followers is leading by example through actions that demonstrate confidence, hope, optimism and transparency in making decisions (Avolio Gardner, 2005, p. 325). I agree with the postulation that followers are developed by the behavior of the authentic leader that supports self-determination through modeling. Social exchanges that are positive and emotional contagion developed by the leader are also important influence processes in attracting followers. Self-awareness of followers- The development of the followers is achieved through heightening the self-regulatory and self-awareness of the followers. The follower develops authentic behavior that is in congruence with that of the leader. I see the connection between the actions of the leader that are important in moving the follower towards processes that are internal which move them to achieve goals that are congruent with the leader. Open and positive exchanges between the leader and follower are important in this context. Development of the follower- The natural consequence of authentic relationships nurtured over time is that both the leader and follower develop individually. The follower is able to perceive the possibilities of their true self over time as the result of the values espoused by the leader. When the follower realizes what their true identity is, they will become more transparent with the leader. The follower in the end becomes a leader through the role modeling by the authentic leader. Organizational context- For the follower to develop an authentic relationship in an organizational context, several things should be considered. The authentic leader should create the environment that provides equal opportunities for all the followers (Avolio Gardner, 2005, p. 327). There should also be resources that support the development of the follower. Such an environment will allow the leader and follower to grow and learn within the context of an organization. Differences with other styles of leadership. One difference of the authentic leader with the transformational leadership is that the former is not necessarily charismatic (George, 2003). The difference with charismatic leaders is that the self-regulation of the leader and follower is missing in the charismatic theory. The difference with the spiritual and servant leader is that the aspects of psychological capital that is positive, is missing in this approach. There is also no mediating role of self-regulation in the spiritual and servant leader. Limitations of authentic leadership. One shortcoming of the theory of the authentic leader is that it does not provide a proper analysis of metrics that can measure two considerations. The first is to what extent can the leader contribute to enhancing the selves of the follower and themselves? (Avolio Gardner, 2005). The second is to what extent do the leader and follower contribute to the veritable performance that is sustained? These are limitations that need further research on the development of the authentic leadership model. Conclusion The authentic leadership is based on several considerations. It is founded on authenticity and is relational in nature. The development of the leader is dynamic based, on psychological processes. It can operate in different levels of temporality such as within a group or organization. At the same time, it has distinct differences with other theories of leading such as the transformational leader. The limitation of the theory is that it does not clearly quantify the actual contribution of the leader in the development of self and the followers. References Avolio, B., J Gardner, W., L. (2005). Living in the city VS. Living at the countryside free essay sample
A lot of people discuss if it is better to live in the city or to live in the countryside. Here are some arguments for living in the city and living in the countryside: When thinking of transportation it is better to live in a city. There youââ¬â¢ve got a lot of public transports. But also in regards to jobs itââ¬â¢s easier to live in the city. You have a bigger variety of different jobs and you usually donââ¬â¢t need so much time to work with your car or you can use taxis or public transports. Another positive thing is that you have a lot of more shops and facilities in a city. There are also more different kinds of schools and universities. The social life is also an important point. In the city you have got a lot more cinemas, restaurants, clubs and events where you can meet new people. We will write a custom essay sample on Living in the city VS. Living at the countryside or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In the countryside live a lot of families with their children because the houses there are bigger and they usually have got gardens and houses in the countryside are cheaper. It is a fact that there isnââ¬â¢t so much trafficà and industries. This is why it is healthier to live in the countryside. There is also a lot of unspoiled nature where you can do outdoor sports like mountain biking, hiking or swimming. When thinking of schools youââ¬â¢ve got more individual teaching because the schools are smaller. But another important point is that you know the people better and so you have better relationships with doctors, waiters, neighbours, etc. But finally should everybody decide for themselves where itââ¬â¢s better to live.

President Jimmy Carters Record on Civil Rights and Race Relations
President Jimmy Carters Record on Civil Rights and Race Relations When Georgian Jimmy Carter won the 1976 presidential race, no politician from the Deep South had been elected since 1844. Despite Carterââ¬â¢s Dixie roots, the incoming president boasted a large black fan base, having supported African-American causes as a lawmaker in his home state. Four out of every five black voters reportedly backed Carter, and decades later, when the country welcomed its first black president, Carter continued to speak out about race relations in America. His record on civil rights before and after entering the White House reveal why Carter long garnered support from communities of color. A Voting Rights Supporter During his tenure as a Georgia state senator from 1963 to 1967, Carter worked to overturn laws that made it challenging for blacks to vote, according to the University of Virginiaââ¬â¢s Miller Center. His pro-integration stance did not prevent him from serving two terms as state senator, but his views may have hurt his gubernatorial bid. When he ran for governor in 1966, an outpouring of segregationists turned out to the polls to elect Jim Crow supporter Lester Maddox. When Carter ran for governor four years later, he ââ¬Å"minimized appearances before African American groups, and even sought the endorsements of avowed segregationists, a move that some critics call deeply hypocritical.â⬠But Carter, it turned out, was simply being a politician. When he became governor the following year, he announced that the time had come to end segregation. Clearly, heââ¬â¢d never supported Jim Crow but catered to segregationists just to win their votes. Appointments of Blacks in Key Positions As Georgia governor, Carter didnââ¬â¢t just verbally oppose segregation but also worked to create more diversity in state politics. He reportedly raised the number of Georgia blacks on state boards and agencies from just three to a staggering 53. Under his leadership, almost half, 40 percent, of public servants in influential positions were African American. Social Justice Platform Impresses Time, Rolling Stone Gov. Carterââ¬â¢s views on civil rights so markedly differed from other Southern lawmakers, such as notorious Alabama Gov. George Wallace, that in 1971 he made the cover of Time magazine, which dubbed the Georgian the face of the ââ¬Å"New South.â⬠Just three years later, legendary Rolling Stone journalist, Hunter S. Thompson, became a fan of Carter after hearing the lawmaker discuss how politics can be used to effect social change. A Racial Gaffe or More Duplicity? Carter sparked controversy on April 3, 1976, while discussing public housing. The then-presidential candidate said that he thought community members should be able to preserve the ââ¬Å"ethnic purityâ⬠of their neighborhoods, a statement that sounded like the tacit support of segregated housing. Five days later, Carter apologized for the comment. Had the pro-integrationist really meant to express support of Jim Crow housing, or was the statement just another ploy to get the segregationist vote? Black College Initiative As president, Carter launched the Black College Initiative to give historically black colleges and universities more support from the federal government. ââ¬Å"Other administration education initiatives covered in the collection include science apprenticeships for minority students, technical assistance to black colleges, and minority fellowships in graduate management education,â⬠according to the ââ¬Å"Civil Rights During the Carter Administrationâ⬠report. Business Opportunities for Blacks Carter also tried to close the wealth gap between whites and people of color. He developed initiatives to give minority-owned businesses a boost. ââ¬Å"These programs focused primarily on increasing the governmentââ¬â¢s procurement of goods and services from minority business, as well as through requirements for procurement by federal contractors from minority firms,â⬠the CRDTCA report states. ââ¬Å"The aided industries ranged from construction to manufacturing to advertising, banking, and insurance. The government also maintained a program to help minority-owned exporters gain footholds in foreign markets.â⬠Affirmative Action Supporter Affirmative action became a heavily debated topic when the U.S. Supreme Court heard the case of Allan Bakke, a white man denied admission to the medical school at the University of California, Davis. Bakke sued after UC Davis rejected him while admitting less qualified black students, he argued. The case marked the first time affirmative action had been challenged so vigorously. Yet, Carter continued to support affirmative action, which endeared him to blacks. Prominent Blacks in the Carter Administration When Carter became president, more than 4,300 blacks held elected office in the U.S. African Americans also served in the Carter cabinet. ââ¬Å"Wade H. Mc-Cree served as solicitor general, Clifford L. Alexander was the first black secretary of the army, Mary Berry was the top official in Washington on educational matters prior to the establishment of the Department of Education, Eleanor Holmes Norton chaired the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Franklin Delano Raines served on the White House staff,â⬠according to the Spartacus-Educational website. Andrew Young, a Martin Luther King protà ©gà © and the first African American elected as a Georgia congressman since Reconstruction, served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. But Youngââ¬â¢s outspoken views on race caused controversy for Carter and Young resigned under pressure. The president replaced with him another black man, Donald F. McHenry. Expansion from Civil Rights to Human Rights When Carter lost his bid for re-election, he opened the Carter Center in Georgia in 1981. The institution promotes human rights across the world and has overseen elections in a number of countries and curbed human rights violations in places such as Ethiopia, Panama, and Haiti. The center has also focused on domestic issues, such as in October 1991, when it launched the Atlanta Project initiative to address urban social problems. In October 2002, President Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize for ââ¬Å"his decades of untiring efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflict.â⬠The Civil Rights Summit Jimmy Carter was the first president to speak at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library Civil Rights Summit in April 2014. The summit commemorated the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking Civil Rights Act of 1964. During the event, the former presidentà urged the nation to do more civil rights work. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s still a gross disparity between black and white people on education and employment,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"A good amount of schools in the South are still segregated.â⬠Given these factors, the civil rights movement isnââ¬â¢t just history, Carter explained but remains a pressing issue in the 21st century.

Current state-of-the-art in one of the EECS Research Paper
Current state-of-the-art in one of the EECS - Research Paper Example The move is driven by the existing gap between designerââ¬â¢s productivity and DSP increased complexity. As microprocessors, digital signal perform data manipulation and mathematical calculations and are characterized by real time digital signal processing competencies as data is processed in real time, high throughput, software re-programmability and deterministic operation. Despite appearing in the market in the early 1980s, DSP have numerous applications and have become key enabling technology for numerous electronics products in fields like automotive, instrumentation and military, multimedia and electronics products. Since the 1980s, DSPs have undergone extreme evolution namely in terms of hardware features, software development tools and integration. Hardware evolution occurred in two phases which are the development phase and the consolidation phase. The development phase took place until 1990 when DSP was characterized by fixed width instruction set. From 1990 to date, DSP hardware consolidation has seen development of parallel architectures, multiprocessing support, fewer manufacturers, specialized families and improved debug potential. Very Long Instruction Word VLIW and Single Instruction Multiple Data or SIMD emerged during DSP consolidation period and introduced parallelism that enhanced DSP performance. Conversely, DSP software tools have improved in a spectacular way as code compilers have evolved to effectively deal with the underlying hardware complexity and increased DSP architecture. The enhanced code compilers enable the developer to efficiently use high level languages to program more and at improved efficiency. Today, advanced programming tools like Matlab and LabView DSP module, enable the graphical DSP programming through interconnection of pre-defined blocks that are later converted into DSP code while high performance simulators, debugging and emulator facilities provide the developer with high DSP visibility with little or no inter ference on the execution of program. Through their recent associated numerous changes, programmable DSPs have become not only a rising star but also one of the fastest growing segments within the industry of processors. New developments in DSP that will influence future chip designs Todayââ¬â¢s automobiles are experiencing a revolution that has seen gradual elimination of systems that are purely analog electronics and mechanical. Consequently, the automobile industry is gradually turning digital and incorporating dozens of embedded processors whose connection is through multiple digital networks that are optimizing and controlling nearly all operations. Hori (1) reveals that the automobile industry will experience more advancement in future car generations while the development of complex algorithms for signal processing will contribute in advancing emission and engine control, safety, driver interfaces, and in-cabin information and entertainment or infotainment. Despite the incr easing applications of DSPs in automotives, the selection of automotive processor is influenced by factors such as automobile qualification, on-chip integration, prices, performance, and efficiency of energy use. The automotive DSPs selection is also

A Friendship and Betrayal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
A Friendship and Betrayal - Essay Example At the same time, the friend needs to be supportive, come what may, even if you do something wrong and this something comes back to bite you, so to speak. So, honesty and loyalty are the most important qualities when it comes to a friendship. Then, of course, there are other things to look for ââ¬â compatible personalities, a shared sense of humor and a shared interest in activities are good things to look for as well. These are the same qualities that I look for in a boyfriend. Loyalty is an important aspect of friendship in general. It is important that a person not take positions that will undermine you, that a person does not steal from you, and that they did not betray you in any way. Of course, as I stated before if you are doing something which is immoral, wrong or illegal, the friend should not support that, but, other than that, a friend should be loyal, and this is universal. Disloyalty generally means that the person is not a true friend. One day, I found out that my b oyfriend and my best friend were sleeping together. And they were doing it in my apartment, while I was away at work. Right away, I decided to end both the friendship and the relationship with my boyfriend. If they wanted to be together, then they could be together, but I would no longer be a part of their lives. This was the ultimate betrayal, and I did not think that I could look past it. As I said, loyalty and honesty are the two biggest traits that a good friend must have, and my best friend showed that she was neither loyal nor honest when she did this to me. I was especially hurt because my friend had recently lost her baby through miscarriage, and I was totally there for her during this period of time. She had an ectopic pregnancy, which means that her baby was growing in her fallopian tube and not the womb, so the pregnancy was actually life-threatening. I went to the hospital with her and stayed with her after she arrived home because she was an emotional mess at that point . I called her every day to make sure that she was feeling okay. I felt that she was profoundly disloyal, and that really hurt. It was several weeks before I would take her phone calls. I heard it through the grapevine that she and my boyfriend did not last, and that my boyfriend had found somebody else. I felt that this was karma for my friend because she hurt me and now she was hurting too. Still, I was feeling sad and lonely, and my friend was calling me several times a day and leaving messages, so I finally picked up and we talked. She told me that she was suffering from severe depression, and her doctor had put her on medication. The depression stemmed partly from her lost pregnancy, but it turns out that the problem went even deeper than that. She was clinically depressed, which means that she had a chemical imbalance in the brain, and she was getting treatment for that. She did not have an excuse for sleeping with my boyfriend, except to say that she was lonely and he was the re. I could feel that she was needy, and I could understand why. She was vulnerable, and my rat of a boyfriend took advantage of that. Really, my boyfriend is the person who deserved all the blame in this situation. I wrestled with whether I would let this person back in my life. I thought about all the good times we shared because we had been friends for many years.
